Bucket list learner

I'm a Mother. About middle age, couple of high school kids (who I tried to get to play, so I could live vicariously through them) but they showed little interest. I've never played guitar or bass, just a bit of drums through Jr high and High school 30 years ago.
So this is a "Bucket List" project for me. Learning to play my favorite instrument, which I know nothing about except for the sounds others make on it and I love.
I've rented an Eastman from a local shop to start. It was (and still probably is) badly out of tune but I've done the best I can with ear tuning it. Now I'm just banging around like an infant. But, I have to say I followed along with my cousin playing Slayer earlier, bungled Smoke on the Water, and can pluck out Mary had a little lamb. I'm ok with that for owning it for 6 hours
I've called a teacher with Phoenix symphony, but I'd love to meet others in my area who play and maybe learn a few things. I make killer brownies and fudge. But that's about all I have to offer.
Oh~ Local bands who have inspired me are 13 to the Gallows and Bats in the Belfry. Both bands I saw at Inkenstien related bashes. Both Bassists are.... Wow!

That's great to hear. Taking lessons from a qualified teacher is the best way to learn proper technique and make solid progress. I'm in my late 40's myself and started on electric bass a couple years ago. What a blast learning my favourite songs and jamming with friends. Keep with it. You go girl!
