Budget Bass Build

I've been resisting the bass urge for a while. Normally, I'm a hobby guitarist/modder.
So now its time for a budget build to scratch the itch. I got a Squier Jazz loaded body via CL for $40. Then ordered a Geddy Lee clone neck from Rondo for $70. Probably order tuners & a bridge from GFS.
Any string tips? Cheapo from GFS or a good DR set?

Definitely put decent strings on it.

How will you know if you've done a good job if the one part making the sound is lousy

Think about it a great mic don't make a crap voice better.

Just an FYI the rondo SX necks are bit wider and the heal is more square. It can be done as I put a SX neck on a geddy body. I sanded the neck slightly on the sided and the heal of the neck. Why didn't I sand the body neck pocket? I already had to sand the heal of the neck so I figured why not sand the sides and that way the geddy body would be untouched and good for later resale. I would leave the CV neck pocket alone. Just my opinion, hope it turns out well. The SX neck sounded better compared to the original geddy neck, go figure.

Thx fot the tip! The stock bridge is missing some saddle screws so a decent replacement is needed,maybe a GFS high-mass? No need to get too spendy.
I believe it's an Affinity...
I'm out in a semi for a few weeks at a time and thankfully it has a 1500w inverter to plug into.
The Bronco 40 looks good for the road. I've been way happy with the Mustang II for my guitars...

I hope it works out for you. I love to tinker and and working with different woods, pickups, and bridges to someday build a few basses a year. No crazy paint jobs and just one body wood and neck woods as well. I'm hoping to make an affordable bass made from extremely good wood, electronics, hardware, and build quality. Kind of like a Wal bass in a sense that people know Wal's come pretty much come with the same woods and electronics (but they want that sound and that's what I want for my basses. I want to keep the price under $1,200).
