Budget bass overdrive

so i have a good pedal board, and i’m looking for a good overdrive for some nice low-mid stuff that isn’t crazy expensive
looking to play some stoner stuff but also has to be versatile for other stuff

A friend and fellow TBer gave me a Sonicake B Factory which is now the keystone (...and last peripheral) on my board. Great OD with a blend plus an optical comp and DI.

I've been using a (used) EHX Bass Soul Food for low-gain dirt. It was cheap and it works great for that slightly dirty tone. However, I have just bought a Fender Bassman Driver to add a little more gain to my sound.

How do you get it into overdrive? I've got one and best I can get is a very subtle distortion. Decent amp sim but won't go any further for me.

Catalinbread SFT has a Stones mode that is crunchy and Stoner mode that pushes it over the top. You can find them used for under $150

The boss odb3 is actually a fuzz but it has a blend knob , high and low eq, effects level and volume. You can make it into an overdrive if you so desire. It’s usually 60 bucks used !

Now , if you wanna go a step up , then get the visual sounds overdrive open road (the yellow one ). They are usually around 100-200 bucks. They are a very nice bass overdrive.

It never gets any love around here, but I love the reissue DOD 250. It’s super simple, sounds great, and can be found used in the $60 range. I’ve gone through a bunch of boutique ODs, but I’ll always hold onto that one.

Both switches on and the Blend & Drive both at ~11:00-12:00 gives me the soft, subtle break-up I find useful.

I just got a Blumes and would recommended it. It does what you are looking for and more. Chicago Music Exchange even had a few one off Blumes that were done for the Eartquaker devices recent event.

Currently have the Mojo Mojo, havent tried it yet in a group but like it so far. Had the Soul Food, was a good one, had SFT too, was great for guitar, couldnt find a good place for it for bass…but that was with active so maybe that was the culprit

If i had to pick a single overdrive for bass, it would have to be the Nobels odr-1 for me these days. They retain tons of bass, are exceptionally transparent (no real mid hump or big coloration), do all the lite-picking nuance and overtones stuff, outstanding edge of breakup tone, and can achive a very believable tube-like, distortion-level gain - and all for $100 new or $80 used. I run it into solid state amps and am very happy with it.
