I'm a little put off by those who just dismiss basses such as the SX, EB-0 and Squier Bronco as "junk".

They are NOT junk. They are simply budget instruments.

Granted, there is more variation in fit and finish in inexpensive basses, but that comes with the territory. What YOU might not find suitable for YOUR playing style or preferred sound may be exactly what another person is looking for. They may take setup time, or in some cases you may have to try more than one before you find one that feels good to you, but that's also sometimes the case with much more expensive basses.

Dismissing them as "junk" is blatantly untrue and IMO throws your judgment into question.

Well, thanks a lot for all your insights and comments. I've just ordered a SX sjb 3/4. Olympic white, with tortoise shield on the side. I'll let you know when I get it. I will take it for a fret work, as you suggested.

Did the tort pickguard come stock with the bass?

No (that's I've to order it "on the side")

Something I should add about SX:

They ship internationally. And even if I get extra charged and taxed, they are still affordable. To me, that's a big deal.

Being a Bronco owner I would say keep away! My girlfriend, who is no musician, put it very well when she said "you can hear all the rattles and clanks with that bass, but no notes!". She had a point.

This is absolutely amazing ... is this a hand made neck or did you use one from something else?

Also to the OP: congrats on your decision. I have a shorty sx and it is wonderful. I never had to take it for a fret job. I adjusted the action myself then stripped that orange finish off the maple neck with some citristrip. It is a very nice bass IMO.

Okay. The stock pickguard is much smaller than a standard one. You'll have to have it custom made.
