Don't know how fast those Dremels get going, but you have to be careful with hi-speed polishing. Depending on the compound, speed, pressure, movement, etc., you can burn through finish before you know it.

Right, which is why I shoulda mentioned that the if anyone attempts it, that they take their time. From what I find, Dremel seems to need to go fast (~5k-10K RPM) for plastic. Probably can go slower for other stuff like basses (i.e. 2-3K RPM), but applying pressure or using a harder arbor (like a felt one) tends to screw up the results when I tried it on a cd. Cotton arbor wheels seem to be the safest. I don't apply any pressure at all and go at it in circles. I used this super fine blue jewelers rouge (supposed to be for gold and silver) and take my time. Other compounds, like the brown ones seem to work fast - maybe too fast.

It's probably good practice to start on some cd cases and the like before you attempt it on your bass, which is what I did.

on some of the posts tung oil was recommended. I want to go to a hardware store and get it, do you think it would help darken the finish scratches?
