Well, Happy Easter everyone!!!
Yesterday, whilst snooping around on "Best looking bass on Talkbass?" I saw the most sleek, beautiful, stylish Carey Nordstrand bass:
It was then, I knew what had to be done.
I must use this color scheme. For one, I had planed down the body too much, and it needs a top to balance it out, accommodate the electronics, and eliminate any possibility for neck dive. Secondly, I love the maple FB. Thirdly, it will look soooo sleek especially in a guitar that is shaped to my own hands, that will sit lightly on my shoulders, and ultimately be an instrument done to my exact specifications.
Oooooh yeah...
Well, I have some work to do.

I agree,when i ordered my custom 6er this was one of the basses i had in my mind .
I went beyond and so on on mine ,but the color scheme of that one is stunning ,simply and classy .

It's been a while since an update. I've acquired a nice piece of wood, a curly maple fingerboard. I got her for a steal of $25 (including s&h). And, modeled as a guitar fingerboard, I was worried it wouldn't fit.

And then I thought, "what the hell" and wet down my mahogany, which I had not done before, just to see that grain.
This is without any finish sanding.

I also wanted to take the time to say that I will be putting off construction for the summer, because I enrolled in advanced woodshop for next year's schedule. This hiatus is just so I don't screw up because of my limited tool supply. But in this time, I will be focusing on other projects and giving updates for them.

Oh, believe me, you have no idea how sad I am that I have to wait this long to finish my build. But thanks for the compliment, man! You should definitely think about a least dabbling in luthiery. However, I wouldn't go into it without any experience. I performed 2 successful refinishes, one being a defret as well, which helped me a lot. But it's certainly a lot of fun and very peaceful to be outside by yourself carving away at a chunk of wood that will become a masterpiece. And, hey, who says that your first build can't be perfect? I'm sure I will make many mistakes (many of which I have aldready made), but I'm planning on making a workhorse (which will allow me to leave my current P.O.S. fretless tuned an octave below cello; fun to play around with, but impossible to gig with).
Go for it.
I haven't been able to buy tools and electronics, etc. for a while. The body's rather thin, as well. Thinking of turning it into an electric baritone g****r (perhaps by gutting my Squier). I've been playing with a band, too.
HOWEVER, seeing that I am a 30-minute drive away from Taylor's El Cajon factory, I'm considering looking for any opportunity there for the Summer.
Anyway, sorry for letting you all down. But it's not /thread just yet. There's still some life left in this wood.
