Building a power amp.

You're looking at building a 600W solid-state power amp from scratch? My advice? Don't do it. You'll end up spending about 2-3x as much money as just buying one.

So why are you wanting to do this? And are you talking about designing/making your own circuit boards and stuff? Designing your own schematic from scratch? Hoo-wee... That's a pretty hefty undertaking.

I've never looked for a solid-state kit, but I would guess they exist - are you going to build something like that?

I'm looking to build a power amp. Does anyone have any advice/tips/experience they would be willing to share. I would like to be fairly big, at least 600w at 4 ohms. Thanks.

Figure on spending 3-4 times what a used commercial piece would cost. Be sure you figure out good limiting and high pass filtering schemes. If you want to make it easy on yourself you could do worse than going here: http://www.hypex.nl/ . Their 700 watt module and matching SMPS should match your needs pretty nicely. I've been contemplating building up this combo for a while, might actually happen later this year.
