Building a small single 10 cab, need driver recommendation.

Planning a build for a light/compact single ten - no horn - cabinet. Does not need to be a hi spl driver so ceramic or neo should be ok, just light, easy to work with and reasonable frequency response... will use the fDeck pre as needed.

This is 1.0 cubic feet net internal volume, tuned to 67 Hz.
The chart was taken corner loaded, indoors, 2.83v at 1 meter.
Note the hot SPL 106 from the indoor corner loading.

It is good for an honest 50 watts before running out of Xmax around 49 Hz.
This is pretty loud indoors, so it will make a nice practice cab for you.

Some of the parts prices/availability have changed since then but all the important stuff is still widely available. Can build your own enclosure of similair size/tuning. Adjust dimensions somewhat if you want to for your own personal situation/transportation, etc. Mods in that thread to add a tweet as well if you want. In any case, great, informative read on what's important in good sounding small cabs and what's required to get there.
 
Beta 12 LTA will do -3db @ 62hz in a 2 cubic foot box, lots of sensitivity, and output to 7k. Little upper bass at 100hz will make it sound big and fat and old school.

Hard to beat for a practice cab, especially at half the price of an S2010.
 
vent length?
I have 4.2" ID x 4.0" in my notes.

The end correction is One open, One flanged.
I find this varies with increasing input power.
It is best to tune the production version at maximum power to be the most accurate.
This is just a prototype test, so 1W/1M was used.

When I fabricated the vents, I used a single piece of 4.2" ID PVC drain pipe.
It is cut to several different lengths for testing purposes.
 
A friend of mine has a few EV 10BX drivers he pulled out of an old EV B-410 cabinet he used to have. I had a cabinet made years ago with one 10BX (not the fourth one, a different one) in it that sounded great, full range, nice deep bottom end, lightweight. The cab was essentially 1/2 of a B-210 cabinet, of which I used to own two of.
 
I'm usin the deltalite2510 in my 1x10's. Singlemalt built them for me. He might have the takeoffs. Fantastic small cabs... The design we copped from a Mojo Sonic 1x10 I had. Built 1 as a combo using my GK mB 200 as the head. Cable cover on th back works as a tilt back device. The other is a dead on rip of the little Mojo cab.

90 % at least of my gigs are on this setup.

this looks a lot easier than what I did- I recommend going with the ready-made box.

this looks a lot easier than what I did- I recommend going with the ready-made box.

Been a GC/carpenter for almost 30 yrs, it'll take me longer to go get the plywood than it will to build the box. After that the most difficult decision will be which table saw to use - LOL. Oh and which driver!

in that case, I'd use an eminence coaxial 10.

If you're happy with it you can add the HF stuff later to have a full range.
also see if any of the Faital 10's agree with your needs. this one looks good for your needs.

I have 3 1.1ft cabs loaded with s2010s based off of Duke's initial project. I really enjoy the sound of that speaker/cab. Before the price of Neo went up, it was a fantastic speaker for $75. It's still worth it to me at the doubled price, but only because I know it's a cab that I will use all the time and it suits my needs. I always go back to the sound of it. I went with 3 to get the SPL that I might need from time to time (2.4ohm total), and to spread them around where I need them in the house, practice locations, etc. Mine is based on a gutted Ampeg portabass 1x10 cab (Im still searching for one more, btw). I removed the crossover, pulled the horn out and put a port in without hole cuttings mods, and changed out the stock driver for the s2010. It takes about 30 minutes total. It's under 19 pounds now, btw. It's considerably lighter than the stock cab. Not the most efficient use of money, but I like it a lot.

In my non-scientific testing compared to a SVT-210AV, it's different. More bottom end extenstion, but still growly and very punchy. I think it actually extends a little higher than the svt. Just about the same volume acording to my iphone SPL meter, but maybe slightly less total power handling. They were within 1dB difference. Sounds fantastic in the house! I keep an ear open for speaker stress, but I usually just use my Ampeg PF-500, or a Mesa Walkabout. If you can score a used one in good shape, it's a no brainer for what you are asking for.
