Hey folks. I've been in so many bands that it's crazy. I usually join exsisting bands. But this time I'm going to try putting one together. My partner is helping me, she's a booking agent and photographer as well.
Well after trying out for, and not getting a spot for a band here in Detroit. I did take away something from it, that band is celebrating it's 10th anniversary this year. They've had so many member changes that it's mind boggling, but the 1 constant player is the guitarist/manager. He's been able to keep the band moving forward, making a name for itself, putting out new material, getting local airplay etc.
The last band I was involved in putting together, was the first, and second bands I was in as a kid. You know, when you start one up with your friends? Then you find out, you're probably better friends, when you're not in a band together?
I think we're going to do both covers, and originals. I even think having two names for the band is a good idea. Because then it seperates the original gigs, and make them unique. Playing cover gigs is a great way to fund the original project. Take the money from the cover gigs, and put some away into a band fund for the original work. We'll need money to pay for studio time, CDs, t-shirts etc.
What do you think? Think it'll work?
I have to resist the temptation to run to the next group of half broken up bands, looking for someone off of Craigslist to patch it back up. Only for it to not work, or last 1 gig.
