Building my own Jaco replica

Got a Amer. STD J-bass for home, and a Squire for play at the office. I own a woodshop in Denver. Just got a Geddy Lee to replace the Squire.
Going to turn it into a Jaco Pastorius Tribute Jazz Bass
Just for fun. Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

There is a pretty epic thread of a Jaco replica on here, from a few years ago. Can't remember whose it was, but he even had Jaco's luthier do the fretboard epoxy.

I understand! This is my first forum, first post, first thread,
first response.... you get the picture. Turning 50 this year, and trying to teach this dog some new tricks.

I will be removing frets for sure! Fretboard is Rosewood,
and initially I was planning on installing thin maple strips w/ epoxy and sanding smooth. Think it would look cool, but is it leading away from Jaco ? ? ?

Yeah, there is probably going to be poor routing, and/or CNC index holes.

You could probably get a proper Jazz bass body for a few hundred, though. Maybe even a new one, to avoid pickguard holes.

Thanks, I just tapped the pick guard....... There is a hollow spot under there, thanks for the warning!

Switched name to Mickey Bass on my 6 month birthday of picking up a Bass
....Just for kicks! Got that Geddy Lee and going to start the Jaco build now.

but it will let me take apart my old Fender J-Bass for a couple of months!
