Building your own rack.. sort of...

Hey Guys,

I have a Hartke 4000HA and I play through a Peavey 1810 (an 18 and 2 10s(basically the same as the 1820)) I was thinking about making sort of a rack built into the top of the cab to rack my head and leave a space to pack in the cords when traveling.

I would basically use the top of the cab as the bottom of my rack. Something between a rack and a combo. any reason why this wouldnt work? Any tips or suggestions? Is this just a horrible idea?

Maybe I don't understand. It seems like with a separate rack, you need the bottom to provide stability to the rack - so your gear doesn't have to - If you attach the rack to the cab, in effect using the top of hte cab to provide that stability - you just made a large cab, larger yet and more of a PITA to move. I can't see any advantage to it. If it were me, I would just build a rack and put some feet on the bottom ...

agreed.......when he can buy a decent 6 space rack for under a hundred all day long it would make little sense to start carving up the cab.....plus he would have room for a tuner,some air space,and probably room to transport cables.......a motorcycle strap would add stability if needed

I guess others must be in agreement with you guys. I was just trying to stay as cheap as possible. I will just have to stay on the lookout for used racks.

do a scratch build rack. Rack rails are cheap, wood is cheap...
