Burman pro 4000 amazing

Just wanted to send out some love to this incredible amplifier..I picked this up for nothing due to it being faulty..I popped some new KT77's in it and fixed a bad impedance selector..WOW this is definitely one of the best built and best sounding valve bass heads I have EVER heard..all point to point wired with super heavy partridge xformers..running KT77's about 120 watts I would guess. Truly phenomenal....

Im running it with a '73 8x10 SVT cab....

Sorry for dusting off an older topic, but i am seeing a guy about a Burman pro 4000 this friday. What should i expect soundwise when testing? Is the Burmans preamp buildt much like a Bassman or is it a completely different animal?

I've only just noticed this thread while doing a search for other Burman things. I have two Burman Pro4000 heads and a Pro501 guitar combo as well. I used to have three heads but that was just being greedy.

Suffice to say I like them. One of my Burman heads has only 10 hours playing time on it as well.

To answer your question, they sound like no other amp. The reason is that the design of the circuitry is based on Gregg Burmans experience designing valve PA systems in the 60's and used the best components available at the time so expect something very clean and hifi.

The amps were also designed for KT77 valves although will run on EL34's with proper biasing. They tend to sounds a little grittier and warmer with EL34's in but with the KT77's they're clean and full.
