Busted Nut

In a stunning display of intelligence on my part, I recently broke the nut on my brand new Stingray 5. I was changing the string, and I kept tightening the G string when it kept de tuning, I guess the pressure built up on the nut, and the part of the plastic holding one part of the G string broke. Seeing as this nut is used only by Music Man, I was wondering whether I could get it replaced by the company, and even if I could, would it be worth it? The design is called a "compensated nut", and it's supposed to make the intonation better on the higher frets on the neck. But it is made of plastic, and from what I've heard brass or bone nuts are better. So any thoughts or opinions on nut materials would be well appreciated.

Did you move up a string gauge or something? That might have caused the string to bind at the nut, and cause it to break.

I would contact EBMM customer service to see if you can get a new nut. They really do help with the intonation.

I didn't up the string gauge, but I have a feeling the nut may have been a bit out, even if my over tightening didn't help. But ernie ball is sending me a free replacement in the mail, so I'll get that installed when in finishes the 7 year trip to Canada :crying:
