Buttoned-down shirts and glossy finishes?

something long....

All good suggestions. I take care of my basses to. But overall, not just the body. Stay away from the drummer. If you play on his right and you are right handed, the headstock can take a beating if you are close. Ya it's a tool, but I take care of my tools as well. I fix / build motorcycles, tools and basses are expensive. (Well not all) You know what I mean.

Dress shirts with hidden buttons.

Maybe because I've worked from home for most of my adult life, but I didn't even know these existed as a thing. Thanks.

I usually sit when I play my jazz gigs, and last night I just wore a button-down guayabera shirt. Not any marks on the back of the bass, so I think for at least sitting gigs, I don't have to worry about it.

Yeah, I've whacked my Wal 5 on a cymbal once or twice, it was not a thing. None of my basses are inexpensive, so I try to be a bit more careful than I normally would. Don't want them looking like relics.

Hey folks....

I've mostly played satin/oil finishes for most of my life, which tend to hide blemishes, but this year I picked up two brand-new Stingray 5HH's, with glossy finishes. I mostly play in a jazz trio lately, and dress a bit nicer than I would on a dive bar gig, and that means a buttoned-down shirt. I really don't want to scratch the hell out of those basses. Any tips? Just get polo shirts? What do y'all do if you don't want to scratch up your basses (I know there's also people who don't care about that, and that's fine, too - that's not me, though).
Sweater vest. Knit pullover. Kitchen apron?
