Again, the P bass isn't perfect and isn't good for everything. If it was then the market would have shoveled all other basses into the dustbin of obsolescence. The fact that other designs exist in vast quantities is objective proof that the OPs statement is false. That's kinda the end of it.

If you say so. People like variety, that fact doesn't negate any single product in any market that does what it's supposed to do. I have a Plumb brand hammer that works perfectly for all things hammering, but there's still lots of other brands out there. That doesn't mean my plumb isn't perfectly adequate.

I want to get a J neck to put on a P body. Care to offer your thoughts on why that "JMF-B" is $425 while other Allparts necks (e.g. JMO) are much less expensive. They don't do a good job explaining why on their website. I really like the perloid blocks, though. They'd match my 73 J's neck.

I do realize you bought it used here, though. So maybe it wasn't comparison shopping.

I didn't even check what the neck cost new until later. I was surprised it was being sold used for less than half new price.
When I received it I could see why the price is so high. Really nice construction and quality.

I have some pictures somewhere but I'm unable to locate them atm.

Thank you! I like it as well. I ordered a custom guard from Mike Quick at Quick Guards. A standard P guard won't work due to the toggle and the way the knobs are laid out.

I've resisted Fender basses for decades,but it seems the American made ones starting a few years back are really quite nice. I still love my Rickenbacker 4004 series basses,and am currently really loving a '77 Yamaha BB1200 as well. (Kind of a combination of Rick and Fender features). The P bass has some Chromes flats that are still in the break-in process-once they get there,i'm probably really going to love this bass.
