I am sometimes like that. I was broke for a month basically when I bought my MIA jazz. Kinda sucked, but it's over more and I own a awesome bass.

Have paid retail for my 2002 MIA Precision and my 2010 MIA Precision V.
The only regret is that I can't play them more hours every day.

I bought a MM recently and felt the same way but when i pick it up and start playing it reminds me of how much nicer it was than my 1st bass. It is a completely different animal. I still love my 1st bass but when I switch back and forth it is remarkable how much better the MM is to play. I am sure you experienced the same feeling.
i´m no rich guy, and bought an american standard 2011 p bass, and i have never been happier with a bass ... it is not about needs or essentials! ... it is about having and playing a definitive instrument wich satisfies you!
All great words of wisdom folks. I am certianly over it. Everytime I play it (2-3hrs/nite), I feel like I am dreaming. It IS mine. I don't have to hang back on the wall foe the next shopper. No one waiting for me to hand back their bass. I have it set up the way I like it. No one will change it. AHHHH!
Hey man, that's a beautiful bass. And if you've been playing that long, you DESERVE to have a bass that you've always wanted. Don't feel bad at all. Embrace it and smile every time you pick it up (or even walk past it)...
Sounds like you are not used to doing anything nice for yourself so look at this as a departure from that behavior. Look at it as your reward for all those years you spent being practical to a fault.
Forget resale value, forget the guilt. Play your new bass often and enjoy every second of it.
Oh and one last thing, add a line to your budget titled "you deserve it because you want it". You don't need to have something particular in mind, just put some back on a regular basis and use that money to treat yourself from time to time.
