Buying a bass from Amazon ...???

I got what looked to be the deal of the year on a Musicman Big Al Bass on Amazon this last weekend. I already own 3 Big Als as this is my favorite guitar, and picked it up intending to have it refinished in a crazy personal/ custom fininsh. And at $700 off of street price it was an easy decision. Anyway, I got the bass home, and found that the middle pickup, of the 3 did not function. The neck was fine, the bridge was fine, all three buttons depressed was fine. But no buttons pressed, or only the middle buton depressed made no noise at all. It was like an off switch. I emailed amazon and they delivered to me overnight another one, exactly the same as the defective bass, and it had the same problem.

I haven't had any issues like this with my other ones. And i got 2 that were bad? Im going to see if there is a local music man service center to have this fixed, as i really don't want to pay to send my brand new bass across the country for warrenty service.
Anyway i called amazon this time to explain the situation, and they wouldn't exchange it this time. When i explained that i didn't want to return it, that it was too god of a deal to not keep it, and have it serviced, she gave me another 10% off as a refund. Leaving me with a brand new, amazing sounding (except for the middle pickup not working, but warranty fixable) big al bass for less than $1000 shipped.

I will certainly buy this kind of deal from amazon again.

now to find a local ebmm service center..

That's something I was thinking about. If it's not quite perfect, but easily fixable either with warranty or an easy fix by my luthier, see if they'll refund me a percentage. Even if it is too god. ;P

Tomorrow or Monday...

I got the deal of my life from zZounds. So, I like them. Sweetwater has some prime stock, (at the same price as anyone else) but the follow up calls can be annoying. Guitar Center/Musicians Friend has stuff on their sites that they actually do not have at all. Out of 3 purchases, I got 2 back order notices AFTER purchase. Amazon? It's like shopping at Wal*Mart. If they have it, it will be at a good price. It may be B stock, or not. I doubt they care.
