Buying a five string

I recently picked up a Schecter Stiletto Elite 5 (pre-owned but unused). Very nice bass, easy-playing and good sounding, not to mention beautifully finished. That would probably be in the $1000 CDN range as they're $800 at the major US retailers.

Exactly. People can recommend basses they like all day long, but no one can tell you what you will like or what will fit you. Only way to know is try out some basses until you find what your own personal preferences are.

Unless you live near a big store (such as GC or Sam Ash) then the chances are that the average music shop won't and don't carry that many 5ers. It's a case of 'easier said than done'.
