buying a new 24 channel mixer

i play in a 8 piece band. we currently have a 16 channel berringer that BLOWS.....channels keep crapping out. we need a bigger, better mixer. what do you guys suggest? is yamaha worth looking into? mackie? i think we're trying to stay around 1000-1200 dollars. thanks.

I'll be that guy that suggests something way out of your price range. Consider the Presonus Studiolive. The 24 channel is $3300 and the 16 channel is only $2k.

But it's a digital board that gives you HPF, limiter, gate, comp, full parametric EQ, verb, and delay on every channel. If you purchased that all as outboard gear it would be extremely expensive. Also has 10 aux sends.

What he said. We have been using the 16 channel one for well over a year and could not be happier.

Been there with losing channels on a Behringer.
Can't stand Yamahas (except their pro boards) because there's not enough latitude in the mic preamp. Can't turn it down far enough for hot signals (and no pad) and they'll distort really easily.

I swear by Mackie mixers--just got a new 24ch Onyx and love it.
You can find a gently used one in your price range.

Bump for an old thread but I'm having the same problem... my Behringer 2442fx board was used $150 I paid but I'm losing channels now... so time to go. It was beat when I bought it.

I'm looking for between 10 to 14 xlr input channels, with FX, unpowered, not too pricey, we get paid NOTHING. Low end mixer that lasts... if I have to go medium end for durability, so be it... what lasts for less ???

I totally agree with the A&H MixWix

I'm thinking of buying new... and I'm a cheap bastard that buys a lot of used. Theres things like mattresses, underwear, cables etc you buy new not used

I'm thinking a mixer is one of those things. You just dont know what people did with the internals. Too many holes & places for beer spills, dust, dirt.

You can inspect a bass, test out amps but mixers just have too much going on, too many things to test, too many openings for stuff to get in.

15% off of new is the standard at musicians friend so new 16:3 would be $850.

Wait a minute....he did say 24 channels...if you can't fit on 16, look for the aforementioned A&H GL2400...also a great board but $1000-1200 for sure. A Yamaha MG32 (24 xlr's) will set you back that much new, but isn't nearly as good a tool. The aforementioned Mackie Onyx would be a great mixer as well, similar to the GL2400 in features and price. Not sure about the used price on a Soundcraft GB4, but that is another option in that category if find a good used deal. Main thing is shop used if you're going analog...lots of folks going digital and trying to unload some nice pro-level analog gear.

Carvin has either too little or too many channels, some with no sliders, some too big for my rack or too pricey

Just nothing in the wheelhouse. I need at least 10 XLR inputs but no more than 14.

For smaller mixers though, not a bad thought

The 2448 has exactly 24 channels, like you require, up to 24 XLR and/or 24 1/4" inputs on each channel as you need and all with sliders. And, it can be found for less than your original budget. It's certainly not rack mountable but not many 24ch boards will be. What am I missing?

B-stock Presonus 16.4.2 around 1500 from RMC. Fight Case from Island case for another 200. Sell ALL your outboard EQ's, Comps, gates, effects ... Lighten your load and get a better sounding board at the same time. I cut two racks from my live rig with that board.

Nervous- Just a tad too big & costly, I'd go A&H vs that instead for sure

4mal- I was checking out the digital boards but I got an old crusty free soundman that would want old school

Lowfreq- Boston... but I would surely have jumped on that A&H for 500


The Yammy MG166CX is LESS than the Behringers new QX2442fx... hmm
