Buying a used amp from Guitar Center?

haha so i got the amp in the mail today and take it out of the box only to hear something rolling around in there. Of course im like, "ah sh*t, i was just saying i never have any problems buying used from GC..." turns out both the tubes came loose and were bouncing around, plugged them back and took her for a spin. worked flawlessly

I've bought several bass amps from them, and only had to return three of them. Two were broken, and one not as described. It took some argument to get them to cover return shipping in all three cases, and about a month to get the refund.
All the other basses, guitars, speakers, pedals, preamps, guitar amps, etc. have been fine.

Well, I've bought two used Ampeg PN-410HLFs from GC. One was in LA, the other is in OH. The one from LA. was a ridiculously low price, so I figured it was pretty beat up. I called the store and they confirmed that it looked like crap, but it worked fine. I bought it and had it shipped to me. I got 2 days later and it did look like crap, but it did sound great. It was, however, one of the worst packing jobs I've ever seen. I am surprised it survived shipping.

For the astute who noticed that I said my second one "is" in OH, I bought it last Friday. It's supposed to be in better shape than the first one I bought, so it was a bit more expensive. Supposed to have shipped out on Monday, but it seems to have gone missing. Not GC's fault, but they use UPS, so it's kind of GC's fault. I'm not-so-patiently waiting for a resolution.

I don't mind buying from GC, as long as they are being accurate with their descriptions. The return policy works if you have it shipped to you or the store, so it's just a matter of ship it to me and hafta return it to the store or ship it to the store and hafta drive there to pick it up...

I've bought three used heads from GC - but all in person at the store. One was an "as is" Aguilar AG500 that didn't work - all it took was opening it up and re-seating the power supply connector that had come loose when some knucklehead dropped it. An SVT 7PRO that I've decided I don't like much, and a M6 Carbine that you will have to pry out of my cold, dead hands.

Never had issues with any of the purchases. Knew what I was getting, and got it. Probably could have found better prices elsewhere if I had tried, but they were all pretty much impulse buys (or you could be nice and say I was just keeping my eye open for deals...but nah. )

I purchased a GK MB-212 combo online from them last year for a screaming deal. Shipping was incredibly cheap and it showed up in a big box that was well packed. No problems at all with it and it was basically new save for a couple of scuffs.

For the record I got both of my basses and most of my pedals off the GC used site and all my transactions were hassle free and had no problems at all.

It's absolutely great the amount of selection and deals you can find, I use it CONSTANTLY

Albeit on the shipping, I'll expound on what I've found with it. It seems that they have shipping costs by category or something now. About two days ago I was looking at micro heads and full-size GK RB heads, both of which cost $25 to ship to the Houston store. $25 for a micro head seems like a little much, especially when the head was about $120 in price. Sometimes the shipping can make a good deal into a mediocre one, but if you keep an eye out you can snag some real gems.

As far as the safety of it, I would buy off there ANY day compared to here (sorry, but private sales in general just aren't going to have a 30-day warranty or refunds). I get basses, effects, and I just ordered a DBX 166XL from them. It's a great option for the modern and thrifty musician
