Buying a Vintage cab?

Well, I worked them down to $300 from $425!

Probably going to use it with my 90w SUNN 200S rather then my 400w SS head. Just to make sure I don't blow it.

I'm trying to find out which speakers are installed in the thing......

As you know by my gear list and tastes, you know I'm not in that scene, BUT for you, as far as "vintage" goes, if you got that M2000 and found an EV-loaded Boogie Diesel 2x15?? hellz yeah, son!

I have no comments or help for any of these- except that the Boogie + EV design was awesome.

Only cabs in this area are the acoustic 2x15, a 90s Peavey 1x15, and some no name 1x15.

Otherwise, all new bass gear, which I refuse to buy.

1. EVs vary depending on the model.

2. The cab very much effects tone. Namely, how it's tuned, the internal dimensions.

3. Replacing speakers in 20 year old cab kind of defeats the purpose of getting a vintage cab. In the end, it will likely be more money and effort than it's worth.

IMO, I'd buy a vintage cab for the vintage sound. That sound comes from a synergy between the design of the cab and the speaker.

For example, a 60s era B15N with the original speaker has 'that vintage sound'. Playing a vintage bass through that amp is kinda like going back in time. Putting a different, newer speaker in there may come close.

But I digress . . .

There are replacement speakers that will sound similar enough to vintage ones, but if you're already laying down some hard earned clams, I have to defer to Bill F.'s comments about getting more bang for you buck from more modern speakers and cabs.

Luckily, doesn't sound like it would be the smartest thing for me....especially since I'm playing loud stoner rock.

Thing is, I've got a Yorkville 4x10 which is nice alone....but I had a empty SWR combo (just the speaker and enclosure).....so I tried running both cabs at the same time.
4x10 and 1x15, perfect right? Don't have to buy anything.

Problem is, the 1x15 is nearly twice as loud as the 4x10. I'm guessing the 4x10 is very inefficient. Thus my searching for something else.

Nah, I'd blow a vintage cab up during the first gig....which would probably take out my amp too. Can't risk that.

I'm thinking of matching up the 1x15 combo enclosure I have with the Peavey 1x15 cab they have for sale.
I think they're asking $150 for it??

I found a link to a guy on the Vintage guitar forums saying his 2x15 acoustic can handle 900 watts?

He said his speakers crackle with bass, but sound awesome for guitar.
