Buying Bass Amp for my Son

PEAVY? com on..that is crap.
if your son plays in a hard core band and is serious buy him something that will last and sound great. Ampeg and a 8 10 cabinet or Eden. ampeg is the classic sound check craigslist. do not be afraid to buy used the big ampeg "coffin" cabinets can handle a lot of abuse and still work fine.

Back on subject... Pffft. Peavey 410 and a Peavey 450 is more than enough for any budding musician. His dad wants to do the right thing and get him off to a good start. The Peavey rig is MORE than enough!

I can respect your viewpoint, but have you ever listened to ST?! Lotsa groove there my friend. Take a later listen to the Infectious Grooves... basically ST. LOTSA groove there!

BTW, Peavey as beginner gear?! I think not. Again I respect you opinion, but Ill take my Firebass 700 over my $1100 TA 501 to a gig any time. I guess that Entwistle was a beginner too...?! You do know that he played a Peavey stack, right?!

Beginner gear really? Peavey makes one of the best bass guitars out there you know it it is called the Cirrus get a USA made Cirrus and get yourself any Peavey amp head 500watts or better beginner gear hahahaha

play nice kids.

playing with a pick will help, and he's just going to need a lot of speakers to keep up if the other members are hell bent on decibels.

yeah, get him earplugs. i reccomend the ones that are three progressively larger silicone cones with a small plastic rod that sticks out of your ear so you can retrieve it. I've played in, done sound for, and seen a lot of loud bands with and without those and i prefer with.

The Peavey Tour Heads (450 & 700) will work good and Peavey does make solid gear. The last time I looked the 700 head was only about $80.00 more than the 450. I would go with the higher wattage head.

You will have to sift through all the BS and opinions on here but looking at stuff from Peavey, Carvin, and G & K is a solid bet. I think these brands give you the best performance at their market price points (that's an opinion too) Your son will have to decide which one he likes the best sound wise and feature wise. Unfortunately there aren't many Cavin stores around to try their stuff out.

I'm supposed to be living on the beach in Florida as of NOV 1 (by myself) and I'm stuck in sub zero with snow up to my tail with TEN uncompleted projects; including my Shovelhead (due to lazy assed vendors) plus too much concrete in the ground (everything I own weighs more than 100#) to run away and go diving, riding and womanizing...

If I just pulled out you'd see six 810's on Craig's List for $300 each...

Wife made me push my Rig into the dinning room again so she could put up of all things a XMAS TREE, so I'm building my bike next to the AMP...

I think you just passed the you might be a redneck test with that pic! Lol, I have one just like it with a dismantled RM250 in the kitchen!

Unfortunately Peavey is like Chevy. No matter how good their stuff is the public perception from the past errors hurt. I hated Peavey for years unfairly due the the fact that I could never get a good tone from the guitar amps of the 70-80's. Neither could anyone else I knew! Kinda like the crap Chevy put out for years. Today both companies make great products, but no one believes them. Go try the Peavey, you'll see its all he needs. Especially considering budget. Good luck.
