Buying first amp.

Well, after all the insight, I'm going to head to Guitar Center (unfortunately, there's no good music stores nearby with any kind of selection.) and try out a 2x12, 2x10, and 4x10. I'm guessing I'm going to like the 2x12 the best. I'll see what they have for used gear, heads especially. I'll probably still go with the Avatar if I can't find a good used cabinet.

Thanks people.

You don't necessarily need to get a brand new Ampeg to get an Ampeg. I swear by my 2006 (I think) USA SVT Classic. Look used as well. Just because LOUD is run by a bunch of idiots nowadays doesn't mean it was always like that. I mean, they got there reputation SOMEWHERE.

forgot to mention, check Craigslist in your area and surrounding ... I have seen some very good buys come out of there ... unfortunately you better go try it out, cuz there have been a few trying to pass their problems off too ...

Yeah, trying out is best, but not always an option. You won't be disappointed with Avatar, and a speaker cabinet is one thing I would not buy used (heads, preamps, yeah). Who knows how many times a used cab's been slogged to death?

The thing with Avatar speaker cabinets is they use very high quality drivers, in a good box at a low cost. Can't go wrong.

I have a B212 Neo and a B210 Neo. They are both great cabs but the 212 is just a beast. It can handle anything, and sounds sweeter all the time. The 210 is fine and probably would be all I need but the 12s have a little more fatness. Very smooth, sweeet and loud, NEVER had a fart or ANY unwanted noises or sounds from these cabs. I use the 210 for rehearsals and smaller shows just because its smaller/lighter.

Choosing a head is going to be a different story. Just get something at least 300 watts, better 500+ and used is good since you don't pay the showroom depreciation. Then if you don't like it, try something else. Buy from a TBer.

Good luck! :bassist:

you dont need ebay ... watch on here ... I have had many deallings with several reputable people on here, and wouldnt hesitate to do so again ... if anyone takes advantage of you from here, their credibility wont last long, and if you buy main name easy resale stuff, there will be a lot of info around on its reliability factor ... I just checked the classifieds for the heck of it, and although there isnt much that currently hits what I would call 'easy resale' there jumping out at me, I did find enough that if I HAD to put a package together tonite, I could do it for about 500 bucks and it would serve me very well for quite some time ... and I think I could get almost if not all of it back down the road ... ask around, and read the feedback for people youare dealing with on here ... JMHO

ditto. i've had great experiences with the guys on here. and i agree that you should look used. and i would check out gallien-krueger. great rock rigs. you get a 700rb (shoot, maybe even a 400rb) and a 4x10 or 2x12 and your golden.
