Buying pickups for my GSR-200

I have been talking with my teacher about changing my pickups and he says I have tunnel vision. I have my focus set on a DiMarzio P & J set that I like. The reviews are good but I am wondering if anyone has suggestions.

I like a warm clean sound and think I am going to yank my pre-amp and go passive. I am open to ideas other that pup changes but I am not really happy with the sound I am getting atm.

the stock pickups on those basses aren't very good. DiMarzio makes a great PJ set as well as Duncan. I didn't care for the mid scooping of the preamp so I yanked it out and installed a homemade one. If you like the preamp I would keep it and replace one of the pots with a push/pull so you can switch between passive and active. When you replace the pickups you might have make the cavities bigger by a few millimeters or else they won't fit.

If the DiMarzio or Duncan are the same size as the Fender pups, the P is actually a bit smaller than the stock Ibanez and the J is very close.

As you can see the body of my GSR200 is quite modified, but I went with the EMG PJ set and a BTC pre. I'm really happy with the tonal variety. Not pictured is an on/off switch in the 4th hole so I can leave it plugged in without killing batteries. Just a thought....

I love my dimarzio ultra jazz pick ups. Granted in my jazz bass, But they sound killer
