So i have a cheaper plywood bass that I use in coffee shop and eatery type gigs and it's giving me quite the scare... It is stored on a stand in my living room, and i picked it up after maybe a week of sitting and it had a HORRIBLE buzz coming from inside the bass, upper bout bass side. Buzzed on open strings, stopped notes- whatever it buzzed. and LOUD like, unplayable loud. I isolated the sound to be close to the end of the top of the bassbar, and i could lay my hand on the top and it would totally go away. looked around inside with a light and mirror and couldnt see anything.
So, i get in touch with a person thats a bit more versed in these sort of things to meet me at my work and take a look at it. I bring the bass to work, it sits on it's side in the bag all day, come that afternoon it's quiet and the buzz is barely audible. cant hear it without almost playing your ear on the top. No drastic changes in temp or humidity from home to work. get it home that night, again, no buzz. On one hand, YAY! no buzz, magic bass repairs itself! on the other hand, with my luck, one day i'll arrive at a gig or studio session and im afraid buzzy McBuzzerson will be back. I live in Kentucky, and there really isnt a repair place anywhere close by... a drive to nashville is my closest bet.
Anyone have any insight on this? what i could do?
