Bypass Avatar crossover?

I never, ever use my tweeter and I always have the attenuator all the way off (which I've heard is not a good idea). I have a 4 ohm 2x12 as a standalone so I never use the other 1/4 jack or the Speakon. So would all I have to do is disconnect the tweeter and cap/tape the wires, then cut the crossover wires and send the 2 speaker positives to tip on the one 1/4 jack, and both speaker negatives to the ring...correct? Then I'd plug the unused 1/4 jack with a soft earplug.

Recent Avatar models use a second order full crossover, which must be entirely removed from the circuit to allow the woofers to run full range and to prevent amp damage when the tweeter is disconnected. Your best best is to remove the stock input plate on which the crossover is mounted, replacing it with a generic plate and new connectors.

Wouldn't doing what I described above remove the crossover from the circuit anyway? I'd be going direct from both speakers to one input jack, with the tweeter wires off...

If you can disconnect the jack from all the crossover components and wire the woofers directly to it, fine.

bill's advice is better than your plan. remove and save the original components. replace the plate and install a single jack wired directly to the speakers. you or the next owner could then easily reverse the process at a later date.

i know, you'll never want to undo it. that's what i told myself, too. i was wrong. :) bill's way is best. later, ron

yeah, that's what I was getting at. I'll open it up tomorrow and see if it's possible. Thanks for the clarification.
