Double Bass C-extension

I was wondering if anyone out there has ever had a C-extension put on their bass. I know it is not feasible for all basses but I am considering looking into it and would like to have a ballpark figure in mind. Most people have told me that the best work, especially for extensions, is done at Robertson's in New Mexico. I live on the east coast (PA) so shipping/traveling is unlikely due to financial reasons. It's not entirely out of the question however. Anyone have any insights or anything to share? Also, anyone know of other luthiers/shops that do good work on the east coast, maybe even in PA?

I know of two shops in NJ which have made extensions in the recent past and might be worth checking out:

There are lots of people making extensions now. I'd start by calling the closest shop to you that does them, and ask if they can put you in touch with any recent customers who would be willing to let you see the work. If you see it and don't like it, then move on of course, but it would be a mistake to listen to some who post here with claims that there are only two or three guys in North America who can build a decent C-Extension.

thanks...all great starting points. in terms of robertsons, i have heard from multiple symphony professionals that the guy doing extensions there right now is the best. im not solely going off what ive seen here.
