C4 expression pedal audio samples?

I can't seem to find any info on an existing thread, so I decided to start a new one. I have a Zoom B1 four X with a built-in expression pedal. It's next to useless on the Zoom, so I'm considering hacking into it, and using it on my C4 synth pedal instead. I can see inside, that the wiring necessary will be simple enough. (BTW, there's a foot switch in there that I had no idea about, at the full forward end of the pedal. I plan to use it for tap tempo).

Still, it'll take some doing to assign the Zoom pedal's pot to the C4, and before I do, I was hoping to hear some example of what can be done with it. I've looked high and low for soundfiles, but have found nothing that specifically features an expression pedal on the C4. I can imagine what a wah sounds like, but unless there's something more, I'd rather not start this process. Any pointers on where I can look for such examples? Thanks.

The Zoom expression pedal has an odd wiring layout. You will need to be able to re-wire the zoom pedal to work with the Source Audio Pedals. Source Audio have chosen the most common expression wiring option, but Zoom went their own way with their devices. Expression pedals are a bit of a rabbit hole with no common / industry standard. I use 2 expression pedals with my board, once connected to my Boss ES-5 (and I use it to send expression via CC midi out). I bought the cheapest expression I could find (about £20 UKP) on Amazon because I knew I'd have to re=solder it. 1/2hr later with a soldering iron...job done.

When it came to adding a 2nd expression pedal to my board, I wanted to directly connect the expression specifically to my Source Audio EQ2 pedal. If you are not connecting your C4 to a Neuro hub using the TRRS port, then the best way to add an expression pedal is to use a Source Audio Dual Expression pedal. It uses a TRRS cable and the expression pedal has a long one of these in the box. It's a great feeling pedal and very smooth action. However, things get a bit complex if you are using your C4 with a neuro hub. It might be better to explore expression over Midi CC. There is a 1/4 expression jack on the Neuro hub...I just don't know if anyone has successfully tried to use it.

I use exp pedal with the C4 to achieve a bunch of different things - as you can control up to 3 different parameters, things can get really powerful here.

In this video all of the bass synth sounds are coming from a C4:



I'm using the Expression to blend between two different sound sources/oscillators (essentially an 808 sort of synth and a sawtooth bass with slow slow-is downward filter modulation), as well as some modifying of the Filter Cutoff and Resonance.
There's also a Line 6 HX FX in the mix providing some additional modulation, verb, and momentary delay feedback/stutters, as well as a Mantic Hulk in parallel for extra sub action, and a Moog MF101 in 'bypass' (for the drive/saturation, no filter action in use here).

I have some other presets on the Neuro App which make use of expression pedal control too; including things like changing modulation source from a quick envelope follower to a slow LFO, to controlling volume to allow volume swells (or pseudo-sidechain pumping).

TL;DR - definitely worth doing, as it opens up a whole world more sonic possibilities from the C4.

I had tripped across the neuro community website once before, but didn't bother bookmarking it, since I don't own one. Clearly, it's a great resource regardless.

Indeed, the pot in the Zoom mulit-effects pedal, somehow has 4 terminals as opposed to 3. I'm a technician by trade, so I'm hoping I can figure out how to provide the voltage divider the C4 wants as an input. It's a question of pedalboard real estate, so I'm going to give it a try, before I buy a dedicated volume pedal.

I believe I've already downloaded some of your patches sirfrancis. Thanks for the video. I had to listen to it twice, because I didn't realize I was hearing the C4 at first!

Hi @Nun Yerbiznes, did you pull it off in the end? I am in a similar position as you. I love the B1four X and it would be amazing if the expression pedal could be used in tandem with the c4.

Hey Doc. I actually sold the B1 four X, and got just a B1four oddly. It's not possible to assign the B1 four X's pedal as a volume input, just output. As a result I couldn't use it before a delay, for swells. This has nothing to do with the C4 of course. I found a used Melo Audio pedal for $50, and it works great with the C4. I had to swap the tip and ring I believe (was a while ago), so it went in the "right" direction. You can set the limits as you wish in the C4 of course, but this somehow appealed to my sense of order in the universe.
