Cab advice

As of recently I asked on this board for help with choosing a head without much success. Well, regardless I've narrowed it down to the Markbass Little Mark III, and the Genz Benz Shuttle. Now my question is which 4x10 to buy in the 300-450 range. I need something that can handle relatively high volumes. I play with two guitarists and a VERY heavy handed punk rock drummer (you wouldn't believe what he does to heads). I just need suggestions on 4x10's in that price range that can really handle the volume.

If you want loud, you're probably going to need to look at used gear. If you could save up some more, the Avatar 410 cabs are liked by quite a few people around here. I'm looking to get myself a couple in the near future. ;)

I have no idea about wattage, ohms, and all that good stuff. Can this 4x10 handle a Little Mark III? How far could I crank the master volume before it would be considered dangerous levels for that cab?

Well, it's an 8 ohm cab rated at 350W RMS. The LMIII is rated for 300W RM at 8 ohms so you shouldn't have to worry about thermal failure of the cab. That doesn't mean you can't still blow the cab if you crank the lows and turn the head up to 11 .

Will it sound good? Only your ears can decide that.

My gut tells me you can find a better cab than that on the used market.

Avatar is worth looking at
GK (not backline)
Ampeg 410HE

Ruckus, I don't know about your other thread, people here are usually very helpful. But, you need to understand a few things before you go all crazy with it. You've chosen a head? (between the 2 you listed?) If not, choosing a cab will be difficult. Your price range is also pretty low. This will work against you. What you want to do, is get the head sorted, and find a cab that matches up well, AND, that you like the sound of. If you're going to be sticking with just the ONE CAB, you need to be sure it's 4 ohms, and that it can handle the wattage of your head. NO CAB can take the full power of any amp, with boosted lows, without causing some problems. Like farting out, (sounding bad), all the way to blowing out the speakers. It would be advisable for you to spend a little more time reading up on all this, to help yourself make a better decision.

Just a thought-try to find the head used to divert as much cash as possible to the cab. On that note, I find the Shuttle 6 not as loud as the LM2 (in spite of the extra 100 watts). The Carvin BX500 also offers 500 watts at a lower price point, still with a tube pre AND it'll do 2 Ohms so in the future you can add another cab.

+1

I'll also add that you get save at least $100 by buying an LMII off the TB classifieds. I believe they are going for around $425. Then you can use that extra savings to spend on the cab.

If you plan to use only one cab make sure it is 4 ohms so you can get the full power out of the amp. With the LMII a 8 ohm cab will give you 300w and a 4 ohm cab will give you 500w. Carvin and avatar makes decent new cabs for around $400, but if you could get a used ampeg or gk 410 I'd go for those first.

Definitely helpful responses. I don't think I can possibly buy used because I'm using good ol' plastic to make these purchases. I'll definitely check out the Carvin cabs, I was just a little nervous about them because I knew of a guy with an 810 who blew three speakers in it in one year while using the matching head. Also thanks to GRoberts I've decided on the Little Mark for sure.
