Hell yes you won't ever blow that 4ohm guass out I still have that speaker but swapped it out with a 4 ohm Altec My 74 mini amp wasn't pushing that speaker enough.. so don't worry guass speakers always could handle power well... I've got another cabinet I use with 4 5 inch speakers and a passive 15 facing out the back a very cab

Double Bass Cab for a 1984 Walter Woods 100Watt Stereo

So,
The Woods says 300W at 8 ohms. Does this change anything with respect to the Gauss?
Knowing nothing about resistance, I can only think of Dorothy at the end of Wizard of Oz:

If the amp is rated at 8 ohms only (!), you cannot connect the cab without a very high risk at blowing your amp even below 100 watts.
But I doubt it (better ask someone who knows the Woods amps better like @Ric Vice) and you can load the amp at 4 Ohms. Unfortunately then you get more than 300 watts at 4 ohms which can blow the speaker even more easily if you turn up the volume beyond the drivers capability.
It would work better with switched impedances, cab with 8 ohms and 100 watts driven from an amp with 300 watts at 4 ohms (which gives you something between 150 and 200 watts at an 8 ohms load). Not ideal either, but less dangerous.
Seems that that 15” Woods cab is intended to be used with the older Woods 100 watts amp.
Replacing the driver in a cheap cab worked well for me. Old Peavy cab with a 15” 70 watts at 8 ohms driver was replaced by a no-name cheap 15” 300 watts at 8 ohms driver.
Sounds a lot better to me, but I hardly want to carry that big and heavy cab (at my age now) and have better solutions for DB now. It’s a backup as well as the 600 watts Carlsbro amp that can drive it. But better suited for a BG that I hardly play at all.

Walter’s amps were rated at 8 ohms but are 4 ohm compatible, so the MI-100-8 is conservatively rated at 100 watts is @ 133 watts at 4. The Electroacoustic

Through the cobwebs of time past, I vaguely recall having had a smaller Woods, probably around the time I had the cabinet.
For reasons unknown, both items were sold.
Subsequently I acquired the Electroacoustic 300W 8 ohm, and rarely used the cab with it.
I appreciate the 'be careful' admonition, but I'd probably better err on the side of an 8 ohm speaker/cab.

Came across a pair of Walter woods 1x15 speaker cabinets super cabinets Gauss loaded.. one is # 28 one is #98... #28 has a removable back #98 sealed back that's the only difference..wonder how many were made and how many are still out there..Very nice sounding cabinets
There weren’t that many of those Walter Wood’s 1x15 cabinets built. There were pictures of one on Talkbass bass years ago . As I recall, Walter did not build them. That #98 seems pretty high to me, but I have no idea how many were made, only Walter would know and no one’s heard from him in awhile.

I think I found one of yours on Reverb. That’s to the best of my knowledge is not the Walter Woods speaker. Walter’s speakers had Red Grill cloths. I’ll see if I can find the original picture.

Was that bassist Rick Shaw? I first met Rick (who was a Grad Student in the late 70's/early 80's) at Eastman.
