Cab for slap bass

Hi there
Purely for slap bass rockabilly style
I have a 350w fender bassman amp and a 4x10 cab which I like.
My question is I would like to have a separate speaker for my slap pick up from my fingerboard.
I'm also using a preamp which is strapped to my bass and it does give s nice click just sometimes it can be too clicky and I would like more control.
Can I add to my head etc

Is your 410 a Fender? Most 410's have a huge low mid hump, are short on fundamentals, then vary in mids and highs depending on drivers and crossovers.

All of this is my way of saying you might want to consider a fEARful, Fearless, AudioKinesis, or Barefaced cabinet. If you have DIY skills, fEARful can be a real bargain. All of these can be found used on TB classifieds, with a little patience.

I play Psychobilly and while I'm not super clicky and don't use gut, I can get plenty of click with a 12/12/6/1 fEARful. I don't use a fingerboard pickup, but I do use a Piezo and a magnetic pickup.

A full range cabinet like a Greenboy fearless or fEARful is like having your own private full range PA. It can do lows, highs or mids without the "excessive" coloration of a typical bass cab. Of course, if you like the color you have...

Since this is posted on the BG side: what separate pickup are you using for rockabilly slap on a bass guitar? But if you mean something for an URB (as I assume), the best I've heard was an Ampeg B15 with a separate mic. Doesn't take much at all to get the click on top.

OK. I'm confused. If it's too clicky, can't you just dial it out with the shadow pre-amp? It has 2 channels, right? Are you trying to get more low-end, more mids, or ???.

Correct.
I want it to be more bassy with less treble. Treble turned right down volume around 2 to 3.
Dont get me wrong it's quite a healthy click but a bit too much treble in it for me.

You want more mids and more lows? Can't you turn the clicky pickup down more and boost the bridge pickup—or is the bridge pickup too bright, too?

The bridge puck up is a bit bright but can manage that one ok

How does the answer to the above relate to having a separate channel and cab for the neck pickup?

I am assuming you have a plan for how to amplify the click channel apart from the bridge channel.

I guess I just haven't quite grasped how a second cabinet relates to your EQ issues.

But both go into the same head.
The pre amp adjustment is no where near enough for what I'm trying to achieve.
If I were to adjust the amp so much to get the right click. The bridge sound will be full of bass and not much definition

I think you need more EQ and perhaps a speaker cab that has a more neutral voice. I'm still wondering how you envisioned integrating a second speaker cabinet?

@Passinwind has hinted that you might have more success over on the DB (double bass side of the forum). I'd recommend checking out this thread: Shadow RB Pro Update in this forum: Rockabilly [DB]

The cab I use has two 12" 3012LF drivers, a 6" mid driver, and a 1" high frequency driver. It is a fEARful called a 12/12/6/1 which is just a list of the drivers. It is way more than I really need, but is easy to roll around on tilt back wheels.

IMHO, a fEARful 12/6/1 or a 15/6/1 cabinet would do what you want, although if the EQ on your shadow preamp is not enough, you many need to add a mixer with 3 or 4 bands of active EQ or an additional EQ pedal. That said, it seems that other shadow users are pretty happy with it.

Maybe it is not the right tool for the sound you want. The rockabilly DB forum linked to above is probably where this belongs.
