I have been playing my 2000s through an ampeg 6x10 for a few months now, and I enjoy the way it sounds, but the plywood the cab is built out of is falling apart. I am thinking about just building a new enclosure and putting the speakers in that, but I am not sure if 6 tens is the best setup for that head. I know it was designed to run through 2 JBL d140's or something. Would it be worth the time to hunt those things down on eBay, or what?

Cab for Sunn 2000s

all that matters is how it sounds to you, and apparently, the 610 is doing it for you. why fix what isn't broken.(aside from the broken plywood issue).
black widows are quite popular as replacements in sunn cabs, you might try 2x15 inch ones. Although i think it would probably be a whole different world of sound, it's a common setup.

IMHO, the bottom end of four D140F 15's in those Sunn cabs in pretty easy to capture with a high end modern 410 or 610. Epi, Bergie, etc.
There is only one true cabinet to play a 2000s through, and that's the JBL loaded 2000s cab. Trust me, what Edbass posted above is unlike anything else. And I have to respectfully disagree with Mr. Carr, modern 10s cannot capture what is going on with those old JBL 15s can do in that set up. They can get the low end, but it's about how the whole setup works together. I'm not going to describe it as "magical", but modern 10s cannot do the same thing as old 15s. However, I wouldn't recommend getting the old D140s they originally came with. While sweet, they're not really capable of what the later K140s can handle. The other thing is the old JBLs can get quite pricey. If you want to build a new enclosure and decide to run 15s, the 2000s cab is a pretty simple design.
All that said, if you like how the 6x10s are working, then just sticking with those is probably a safe bet.

If this was an auto show, I think you should get the "show stopper" award.
Back in the '70s I used an SVT with two JBL loaded 200S cabinets. I was opening for REO Speedwagon once and the bassist, Greg Philbin, had a Sunn 2000S with two JBL loaded 2000S cabinets and it was thunderous.

Use what you like, but if I had a 2000s head, I'd use a 2000s cab. In fact, I already use a 2000s cab, and I don't even have a 2000s head.
I think the dual 15 set- up is far superior in every way than any 4x10. Love the D140 but a K or E might be a bit punchier sounding. If you can find 'K's go for them!

That particular 2000S rig is loaded with K's, they sound very similar to D's but handle more power.
I'm a firm believer that the best cab is the cab you personally like the best IMO, but that said, although I far more often gig a 410 than a monster rig because of logistic considerations, in my experience there is no way that a 410 or 610 even gets close to the bottom end wallop of a pair of JBL loaded 2000S cabs.
