Cab Question

Hey All

I recently ordered a new TC Electronics RH450 amp head. I wanted it mainly for the memory functions since I play 2 different basses.

I have yet to decide what cabinet to run the RH450 head. I would like a 4x10 cab. Ive thought about a Hartke Hydride cab.

Is it recommended to use a cab that is made by the same company as the head? or can heads and cabs me mixed and matched?

Mix n match is a nice thing, having an RH450, I think you should ponder on the RS cabs for optimum performance. I could be wrong. Though I do not have an experience with the RS series. Just a thought and experience with an RH450 head. No expert.

Use any amp you like with any cab you like. But if you use multiple cabs, the best bet is to use 2 of the same, identical boxes.

Personally, I don't care for sealed cabs so much. The Hydrives are sealed.

What's your budget?

Think of it as an amp that peaks at 450watts rather than is 450 watts rms.

If you get a 200 watt cab you can probably blow it. We'll, that's if you get a 4 ohm cab.

and don't worry about the brand of cab. If you have a cab tone you like that would be a great choice. I have played mine through an old 80s 15" black widow and also through 2x TC cabs. I like them both for their tone.

Actually 264 @ 4 ohms, to bad you can't defeat the Active Power Management.

I wouldn't want to go over $800. what brand of cab would you suggest?
That's a tidy sum to have available, especially if you're open to used cabinets. Are you? That's what I'd suggest. And where are you located? If in America, the classifieds right here @ TB are a super place to check, along with CL & evilBay of course.

True...
Note also that the burst is at 1khz. Pretty much meaningless for bass application.
Quite true, but I think that's a standard RMS measurement.

I do agree that I wish everyone would be forced to standardize on a power measurement. So many amps now listing peak power... friend just bought powered PA speakers and how they were 1000 watt amps.. it's 1000 watts peak at a very high THD, but I think closer to 400watts rms at low THD. So hard to compare things.

How about the QSC K12?
