Cab replacement speaker considerations?

Okay, I'm FAR from being a guru on cab design and speaker matching. But, I'm thinking about upgrading the speakers in my Avatar 212 Neo. Perhaps a pair of beyma drivers? I'm guessing that would be an upgrade?:help: Is there anything I should look for in particular in terms of speaker specs? Does it matter that much to pick speakers that have specs which are 'in-line' with cabinet design and tuning? Thanks a bunch for any advice/info you can provide!:cool:

ben im going through the same process...in a way.

im changing out a 15 inch speaker.

YOU NEED TO FIND the internal volume of the cabinet in cubic feet and match that to the speakers of your choice!

so H X W X D = ****.** and divide that by 1728. this will give you an answer to your internal cabinet dimensions in cubic feets.

Is it a sealed cab or ported? If it is ported...you need to subtract the measurements of the ports to your anser of
H X W X D and divide that y 1728.

Yes, it matters. Especially if it's a ported enclosure due to the tuning of the cab.

check your internal dimensions and subtract any ports and actual speaker displacement. it will be significantly less than measuring the outside of the box.

i strongly suggest downloading winISD. it is a program where you can select a driver and place it in any kind of box with any dimensions at any tuning. i am a novice when it comes to this subject, but i usually check SPL (efficiency), xmax (excursion), etc. its also good to find what wattage will fry the speaker at lower frequencies.

Why not just get a new cab, or have one designed for your specs by someone like Low Down Sound?

Seems like many manufacturers design cabs so they will stack on top of each other, rather than to maximize them for a certain sound.

However, I believe that if one is discussion several different types of feet, and several of each, you pluralize the plural.

10 goldfish, 5 bluefish, and 11 mackerel results in a nice group of fishes.

So, if you have a measured 3 feet, and a guy with 2 feet, and some monkeys with a couple of feet each, you can collectively refer to the pile as feets.

I think.
