Cabin Fever

With the whole Pandemic thing and venues shut down in my area, my band has basically been on standby since April. We've done a few recordings of new songs just so we'd have them and wouldn't forget our parts. We've maybe had 1-2 band practices and a couple little jam things but then stopped again. We chat weekly about future plans but nothing seems to be on the horizon.

I've bought some new gear, worked on tone, practiced some songs, tried recording some of my own stuff for fun. Basically I'm getting super bored and feel like my bass playing is starting to slide down hill.

What's everyone been doing to keep active and inspired?

I'm a professional. I love to play every day. That's all I've ever done. But, if you are temporarily tired of bass, try another instrument. It can only help you as a musician. I played guitar, drums, trumpet and several more before I even started on bass as a teenager. I still play most of them. Take up a different instrument. The learning curve should keep you interested and make you a better musician overall. It doesn't have to be expensive - buy a pair of drumsticks and concentrate on different beats. Play along with the radio.
