I have an 8ohm Hartke VX410 that I blew a speaker in last year, and have since bought a 4ohm Avatar 212 Neo cab (amazing speaker box by the way). I would like to get the speaker replaced in the 410, and was wondering if it would be wise to hook up a 4ohm cab with an 8ohm.

Any help would be appreciated!

i will guess the 4 ohm cab will be louder in relation to the 8 ohm cab cuz its drawing twice the wattage, but maybe not, depending on the efficiency of each cab. i think both would give you a 6 ohm load? not sure, hopefully someone will confirm. johnny a

4 + 8 = 2.67 ohms And Johnny A is right, the 4 ohm will get more...

I am using a Peavey Max 450 for the amp. So you guys are saying it will drop the load to 2.67 ohms? Since the Peavey is 8, 4, or 2 ohm capable it should handle this I presume!

Yes, the 2.67 is acceptable if the amp can handle 2 ohms.

The 4-ohm cab will definitely get twice the wattage that the 8-ohm cab will get. Use caution to avoid blowing the 4-ohm cab.

As staindbass said, we don't know which cab will be louder; it depends on the design.

The 4 ohm cab is rated at 500 watts (450 watts is the max my amp will push at a 2 ohm load), and the 8 ohm cab is rated at 300 watts, so I think it will be all good.

Power-wise, you're fine. Assuming the amp pushes the full 450 watts, then the 4-ohm cab will draw 2/3 (300w) and the 8-ohm cab will draw 1/3 (150w).

If either cab begins to fart out, you have to reduce volume or bass EQ. Regardless of where your volume is. Otherwise you can tear up the drivers.
