Cabinet for a 50Watts tube amp.

Hi!
I'm not a bassist, but the bassist of my band needs a new gear. Our style is hardrock
So, recently I bought this Kit :D:

My doubt is what cabinet would be ideal for this amp. :hmm:

Edit: I was thinking in a 2x10, what do you think?
This is my first thread :D. Thanks to all!

Where are you located?

50w is not going to afford you much clean head room. I suggest you look at a greenboy Dually loaded with 3015's if you are in the states. If you are in the EU then look at a Barefaced Bass super 15.

Should either of those cabs not net you enough volume, then get two of them.

Thanks!

Actually I'm from Paraguay (South America).
My idea is to build myself the cab.
I would need to buy the speakers.

Ok then.

Check out the TL-606 plans (free on the internet). Convert them over to 1/2" and build in birch ply. You should check out the bracing scheme that the fEARful cabs use, and figure something similar out for your TL-606's. You should also play around with Win ISD and tune the ports for the 3015 drivers.

The reason I suggest these drivers, is they are very efficient, and will make the most of your low powered amp.

A 2x10 will not even come close to being efficient enough for that a head with wattage that low....in most cases.

I think you should get a head with more wattage lol. But humor aside, the fEarful stuff is what you need to look at, nothing else is going to give you anywhere near decent volume for that head.

I wouldnt recommend the fEARful line out of greenboy's designs. I would want something loaded with a 3015 like the Dually. The Dually is only available through an authorized builder, and shipping to the OP might be a B.

That is why I suggested he look at the tl606 plans. If he is comfortable building his own cabs, they will work with the 3015, and will be loud with his amp.

fEarful cabinets are not that efficient. They need hundreds of watts to really spank. Maybe a Greenboy Dually though...

I would never be able to use 50 watts for hard rock with anything less than 810's or 415's but I'd love to build one of those amps!

My mistake, haven't finished off my morning coffee so anything Greenboy is coming out fEarful as I type LOL. Thank you for catching that you guys. :)

I found it :hyper:

What do you think about this 3015?:

this is the "normal" price?

Good you found the plans.

That is the 3015LF, which is different from the 3015. The LF is a low frequency driver and is not for full range use. The 3015 is a fool range driver. Per the price, yeah that is pretty standard for the 3015LF.

Speaker Hardware has 3015's new for $230 new right now. Which is about right. Shipping of course adds to this.

The poor man's version would use the Carvin 400 watt 15" driver (I think around $80 ea)
I recently replaced my Carvin driver with a 3015 in a TL606; it did sound slightly better but not as much difference as I hoped for

Is 50w going to be enough to get those cabs putting out at a decent clip?

Its a tube amp, so the impedance doesnt matter as long as he has a tap on his OT that matches.

IMHO a single 115 or 410 is not going to have the sensitivity to make a 50 watt tube amp loud enough. So a very efficient cab comes into play.
Loud enough for what? I use a 115 with a 25w tube amp. It's loud enough. Also used it with a 410 before. It's loud enough. Loud enough for what? My gigs. I'm sure the guy understands that it won't be as loud as an SVT or a 1500w SS power amp.

Would like to see him stop with that spoiler business, though. Just say what it is and chill on the games.

Well lets take a look. 8 Ledgend B810's are going to have a combined sensitivity of 101.73 db/w/m. (Ampeg 810)

The Dually can be (as is the Barefaced) loaded with two Kappalite 3015's which are going to have a combined sensitivity of 103.8 db/w/m. With the additional benefit of being able to weigh in around 60 pounds.

Loud enough for what?

You are right, I read:

Our style is hardrock

And assumed the worst.

First things first....what is your budget and what is available in Paraguay? If you need to order in, what sort of taxes/shipping agreememts, etc. are there with othee countries? That sort of stuff will limit your choices.

If you're looking to get the loudest you can with the least amount of drivers/really low powered amp....look here.... http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/
