For a 50 watt tube amp I'd probably be looking at the Omnitop15 or Jack15. DR series if you're a skilled woodworker...they're complicated, bit get stupid loud off of not much driver.

Fitzmaurice cabs are DIY only. You get complete plans. They are very efficient.

With an amplifier like that you are probably going to want to avoid tweeters. While I wouldn't call 50 watts quiet, I think (in a hard rack band at least) you are very likely to have some distortion to get enough volume. I have a 50 watt JCM800 I built with a super lead channel that sounds pretty good on bass but I would never be able to get enough clean volume in my band with it (power metal/thrash metal). It mostly would depend on your drummer, the volume you play at, and the PA.

For cabs I would suggest going to guitar center (or someplace equivalent) and bringing your bassist, his bass, and the amplifier and trying out different cabinets to see what you guys like. It is difficult to make a good decision on a cabinet simply from hearing what other people reccomend. the only way to know for sure is to try for yourself.

Those BFM cabs are chock full of piezos. If they sound so bad with distortion do you leave them out altogether? There isn't any way to filter the distortion from a tube amp direct to the cab.

Another kitset head option (although it sounds like you have already bought the 50W mojo tone kit) is the Weber 6S100 for 100W. I got it shipped to New Zealand without the cabinet to save some $$ and I love it and cost a lot less than the Mojo tone kit...

I have built a couple of 12" cabs with the eminence deltalite II 2512 and it goes pretty LOUD! and sounds amazing! Some BFM Jacks may be interesting to try though.

Properly filtered piezos are not harsh at all. That said, no, tjey don't lile distortion. A simple $4 switch gives you the option of running all, half, or none of them. For a bass cab build I'd just leave them out all together. If you want it to double as a PA cab, then get the tweeters
and the switch.


Face it, if you want to get "hard rock loud" off 50 watts, you're either going to use horns, or an absolute mountain of conventional speakers. The gain you get from horns is pretty much like a "speaker doubler". 212 as loud as a 412, etc.

Not sure how many watts I use but my Rumble 350 is loaded with 2 x Eminence basslite neos and I played my first gig with them at 2.5 volume and -6 db without PA support. I am guessing I used no more than 30 watts??? They are rated at 96 DB.

The BFM stuff is a great idea, especially if you have woodworking chops.

TL606 sounds like a sensible route for sure.

Sensitivity is your best friend with that amp

Loud enough for what? I use a 115 with a 25w tube amp. It's loud enough. Also used it with a 410 before. It's loud enough. Loud enough for what? My gigs. I'm sure the guy understands that it won't be as loud as an SVT or a 1500w SS power amp.

Would like to see him stop with that spoiler business, though. Just say what it is and chill on the games.

LOL. I sometime use a 50 watt tube guitar amp thru a sealed 2x12 for bass in a very loud country/rock band. It's a pretty loud amp for just four tiny EL-84s and two 150 watt guitar speakers, and it breaks up sweetly when cranked. Smooth, punchy, lots of mids to cut, with a bit of power tube spank. I haven't needed to mic it yet, but we haven't started the outdoor shows on bigger stages yet, either. I keep thinking the speakers will light up at some point but they keep on cooking.

Deltalites. Though the builds aren't finished, there's enough going on there I can hear how they're going to work. I'm doing them for PA tops.

Your Delta LF's are not spec'd for use in the Jacks...not enough top end response. The Beta is a good, less expensive alternative to the neo's for Jacks. The Delta LF is suitable for use in his subwoofers, or for a bass cab, the Omni fullrange. Tweeter would be optional in those for bass guitar use.

Sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread a bit, but i guess it is in keeping since you are trying to get the most you can out of a 50w tube head...

Will, I have built 2 cabs for the Deltalite II's essentially to the "large vented enclosure" specs of the eminence site. If I was to put these drivers into a Jack12 do you have any ideas what I might gain and what I might lose between the 2 design's?

I gather I will gain efficiency /volume but may loose some bottom end. Is that the case?
