cabs that have the bi-amp function

hi

does anyone know if you can use any cabs with the GK 700RB-II that take advantage of their biamp function but not being a GK cab (cos they are heavy)?

if you're talking about using the tweeter level control on the amp head, GK cabs are the only ones that allow that option to be used, as far as I know. Alot of -full range speaker cabs have tweeter attenuators on the side, which does much the same thing.

ah ok. its just the 410RBH is pretty darn heavy so i'm looking at some epifani cabs and the like

Why even bother to bi-amp? IMHO the whole idea is obsolete. Good full range cabinets are available with well designed internal crossovers so you no longer need to bi-amp.

The Gk wiring is really basic and lots of PA cabs use this type of crossover (Peavey makes some for sure) that lets you split the horn amp off.

Frankly though, the GK biamp is not worth the trouble from what I've seen. The crossover point is so high that you wind up with a huge deadzone from 3000-5000hz on most cabs (or even worse, depending on the driver; a 15" driver biamped like that might have a deadzone from 1500-5000hz or worse). Might be OK if you're a serious scooper or something I guess.

the 1001RBII/700RBII sound just fine full range.

100% totally agree. I have toyed with biamping, but I always end up with a sound that sounds pretty much like a full-range cab anyway, except for a loss of mids. For some reason, every time I biamp, I lose mids.
