Cali76 only smaller?

God damn it Pickebass! I thought I had ruled the CB out as a contender, leaving the darkglass and smoothie. But your description of it with the stingray (I'm also looking at b7k) has put me back onto it :banghead:

I have the symmetry as well... Totally different animal. When I got the B7k I didn't think it would become one of my favorite pedals. Great eq and it adds its own flavor. The CB for my ears really work well for active basses. .. Especially ones that have their own thing. It's worked well with my Sadowsky, Stingray and Roscoe. Wasn't great with a P bass. HOWEVER... The TX with a p bass is just about perfect.

Like I said earlier, don't get the compact bass thinking it will be the big one. It's a different animal and if you manage your expectations for what it is, it's a great pedal in its own right

I don't have the CB (yet?), but in general I do octaver=>(other dirt)=>B7K=>modulation=>fdeck=>compressor.

I haven't tried every combo, but my idea was that this way the distortions/preamps can react to dynamic changes, and then the compressor will smooth it out.
Ohhhhhh , you're talkng about having the dirt before the comp...
I use the B7K as a clean preAmp .... The dirt comes from the B3K , and it does come before the comp

That's basically the same order I run things in, and IME it does work out that way. My dirt pedals are able to be "responsive", but the signal going to the amp is smoothed out.

I'll edit my review to make it clear--but pickebass is 100% correct. The difference between TX and standard is a subtlety of flavor, while the difference between those and the compacts is significant.

Since you state that the Cali76TX (the big one) has more tonal character than the neutral tone of the 1176LN that you compared it to, would you say that the Cali76 compacts are closer or further apart in tone to the original 1176LN?

I was asking cause I had a STD which I sold to get the Super Symmetry. Turns out, I didn't like the SS at all. I'll explain more further down this post.

With the STD, while I liked it's inherent character, I couldn't seem to tweak it effectively live. In the studio, no problem at all. Ratio around 7, input around 10 o'clock, wonderful. But live, couldn't raise the input more than 8 o'clock and ratio around 4 or it would kill the E string in a way and reducing gain all the way to -10 / -16 when I dug in. Even tried switching the jumper but found it raised the noise floor too much.

So, sold it to try the SS. But found it gave kind of a glassy, dull character to the tone. But worked really well in any other aspect. But I miss the character of the Cali. Just want to be able to make it work more effectively live.

Further, except for the way the HPF of the CB gets a similar result in the low end to the 1176.

Man is the price rough. I would love to compare to the keeley pro comp. Any reason why the cali compact bass blows the keeley out of the water?
Don't know the Keely, but the CB is awesome. Just enough fattening, while allowing a nice aggressive popping attack, feels huge, and still sounds natural and hifi. Subtle but obvious too.

I haven't messed with parallel compression yet, but the side chain HPF is great.

The price is traumatic, but so far it seems worth it. I haven't tried anything else with this combination of features and sound. I can see holding on to this for the long term.
