Calling all you engine mechanic nuts...

They better hope that it is considered "green" early on. If not, no amount of improvement will change the publics collective mind.
A fuel-injected 2-stroke gasoline(not mixed gas) engine is much more efficient and powerful than a 4-stroke of the same displacement. What killed that design was emissions comparisons of engines with similar displacement, instead of similar power output.:scowl: I imagine the MYT would have to be incredibly efficient if they decide to compare it to an engine of similar physical size.
 
Given it can run lower compression ratios enough to run gasoline it should be able to run natural gas or lpg (propane). Maybe hydrogen? Given it can run deisel it should still be better than it's bore/piston counterpart.

Overall this engine imo makes the old style piston engine look like a dinosour big time.

This guy is one intelligent man.

There's lot of hyped up ("Amazing new engine will revolutionize the world!") technology all over the internet, and 99% of it is worthless in any practical application, and some of it is just plain bogus.

You can't really tell about this particular item, though, because there's no details given and no links that go anywhere informative. Experience leads me to believe that this falls into the "worthless" category.
 
It's a neat idea to have the cylinders all rotating in a circle, although there are a few problems:

1. the website reeks of 'send me money for my new amazing technology that is perfect in every way oh yeah and i can't tell you anything useful about how it works'

2. i would think there would be huge vibration issues

3. I would think that this new technology would be just as complicated if not more so than a standard engine (what with it's 3000 parts to this engine's 31 omg)

ps the LA auto show video is pretty neat, but the dyno run ('air motoring') is the one of the most unusual videos i have ever seen. there's no indication that the engine is even running, other than noise and a whole lot of smoke that appears out of nowhere.

perhaps i will show this to my former physics professor. i would be interested in hearing exactly how/why this would or would not work. while i don't believe all of the radical claims (20:1 power ratio yeah right) the general idea of pistons rotating around is neat, in the same way as the wankel rotary engine is neat (yet not very useful to most drivers due to horrible fuel efficiency).
 
If this thing was a reality in any way, one of the big Motor Co's would have bought the licence.


Reminds me of the Ralph Sarich orbital engine invented about 72 here in Australia (Perth, WA ) and after years of paperwork he got one running on the bench and won the inventor of the year, it is said to have serious lube and heating problems (due to design restrictions and compications).

It is said that Ford ( correct me if i'm wrong ) bought the licence ( Making Sarich a Multi Millionaire) and hid the thing away never to produce it.

Let's break this engine idea down into parts.

1) All interanal combustion engines (ICEs) rely on the same physics. Burning fuel creates gas pressure (a force) that pushes on a surface which is mechanically connected to a shaft. The force acts at an angle to the shaft which causes the shaft to turn and creates a torque (a twisting force). Torque is what drives the vehicle.

2) Standard ICEs use reciprocating (moving up and down) pistons as the surface that is acted upon by the force and the reciprocating movement is converted to circular movement by offset journals on a crankshaft.

3) Rotary ICEs (such as the Wankel engine) have the affected surface itself connected directly to the crankshaft and moving around the engine in a circular path.

4) The basic mechanics here are fairly simple and well understood. All the complexity and continued development in design is for the purpose of refining the technology to improve efficiency, longevity, power, emissions etc...

5) There is no way possible to design a new type of engine that can somehow be capable of extracting many times more power out of the available fuel by virtue of its inherent mechanical superiority. That doesn't mean alternative designs can't be superior, it just means that it's impossible according to the laws of physics for any of them to live up to the hype that usually accompanies them on kook internet sites.
