Can a 8 string guitar used as a bass

Does bands like animals as leaders need a bass player if they have 8 string guitar player?

I guess Tosin covers a good bit of bottom end, but there's no way he covers enough to not need a bassist.

While an 8 string guitar theoretically plays some of the same frequencies as a bass guitar, due to the lack of scale length the fundamental frequency is much weaker. As such, it does not rumble as powerfully as a dedicated bass.

So can you sub one? Yes, in a pinch. Will it sound as good? Not by a long shot.

So clearly the answer is no, and you posted this thread anyway. I know plenty of bands with regular 6-string guitar that don't have bass players and they do just fine.

And if you've listened to enough Animals as Leaders, you know that they use a bass guitar often in their recordings.
