Can a Drop D be installed on a Schecter C-5 Deluxe 5 String Bass?

Trying to see, before buying, if I would be able to install a hipshot Drop D tuner on the E string of this bass. It looks like it has the room for it to operate normally

Has anyone done it?

Before you answer; why would I want to: Some songs have a rhythm and feel that is just not possible for me to replicate otherwise. Slither is one example, so please be kind lol.

I completely agree, many song simply require drop D tuning, a five string will not do, period. Slither is a great example were no matter your command of the five string, you're not going to do that song justice.

Why do you think the A tuner is in the way? Looks like plenty of space to me. Especially if OP gets one of the lightweight ones from hipshot

@bastoe worse come to worst, you can always email hipshot directly with these photos and ask them their thoughts.

i relooked and it doesn't seem to be able to fit. Still open to the idea if a 5 string bass exist that will accommodate it. I did email hipshot, but that other tuner is in the way is what I was thinking also.

Because the A tuner is in the way of the base plate and the tuning screw. Those items stick out past the tuning machine by about 3/4", there is no way it will work no matter which model is selected.

Much of the type of music the OP plays was written on a drop tuned 4 string and a 5 string simply will not work, no matter your command of the instrument.

You simply cannot pedal an open, unfretted D on a five string, and if your fretting hand is busy fretting the low D you're unable to play the rest of the notes you should be playing.

I don't have specific experience on this bass so I can't comment directly, but I can say from experience that if you can't get a D-tuner to work you will likely be able to develop the ability to tune up and down between E and D quickly enough for it not to be much of an impediment for live purposes anyway, so it might be a minor inconvenience but IMO not a huge loss.

No retainer, and regular 6-string Soundgear angle, I guess. A decent amount. It just occurred to me one day to try, and I was a little worried about the nut, but well over a year later it seems to have worked. Also, if I'm ever playing a show where I need a low A or something, I could just string it "correctly".
If anyone has a reason why I shouldn't be doing this, please let me know! 😬
