Can anyone help ID this bass?

Has a star * next to the Fender logo, white body binding, no serial number anywhere. Previous finish chipped to reveal blue and white underneath so it's been refinished. Any ideas on make/model?

The "*" on the headstock makes me want to search for fine print on the bass that says "* - Brands on headstock may be less authentic than they appear"
