Can Ebanol be repaired?

I "retired" a fretless Honer stick bass some years ago. My little boy had found a Junior hacksaw. There is a 1/4 inch notch in the fretboard. Is there a resin that I can use as a filler?

file down some (black) plastic and catch the dust?

ebonal "is" essentially black plastic. you can use any type of epoxy to fill the gouge, colored or not. you could also use fiberglass resin or jb weld.

Easiest would be a good 2 part epoxy and some black colorant(plastic filings, ebony, carbon black...etc. and if done properly, should last quite a while.

I would probably fix the fretboard the same way I would repair a gouge in the base of a ski.

Get a stick of black P-Tex from a ski shop. You light the end of the stick and drip the melted plastic in to the damaged area and scrape/sand it down flat.

I could turn some ebony into charcoal, powder it and use that.

If you're just going to burn it, why use an expensive and threatened species? Pretty sure any cheap wood will turn black when burnt.

I see. Well, it ain't a bad idea, using another wood. I made my own charcoal for an "ancient tools" art class when I was a kid.
