Yes, of all the basses I've ever owned in my life, which number in the several hundreds, there's only one I'll never give up, which is my big Alembic fiver with extra-long scale and extra-wide string spacing. I've owned all kinds of good basses in my life, including just about every boutique bass ever made, and even several other Alembics (in fact I'm playing one in my avatar 
), but the big mondo Series bass has a unique and distinctive sound that I'll never be able to get anywhere else (probably not even from another Alembic).
I've owned over a dozen Alembics in my career, and IMO they're some of the best basses on the planet. The craftsmanship of the Series basses is second to none. Of course you pay for it, if you're buying 'em new, and I agree that pre-owned Alembics are the way to go. I won't bore you with the story of how I acquired my current favorite (it's in my threads, if you search you'll find it), but let's just say I was in the right place at the right time, and if you're patient and you keep an eye out, you can find a great specimen at a reasonable price.
