I have looked around the web and cant seem to positively ID and give me some more info on this Charvel 4 string. It is a frankenbass which is why I think I am having difficulty. I acquired it from someone who had it standing up in the corner of his office for ten years (no case or gigbag, just propped up against the wall). He said that a very good friend of his, a bass player, owned it before him (who unfortunately is no longer with us).
He said that shortly after he acquired this he did some modifications, notably replacing the gold hardware with chrome, a new paint job and maybe replacing the pups with dimarzios and who knows what else. Since he replaced the neck plate with a chrome one there is no serial number and he does not have any of the original parts for this bass. When I got this bass it had a real POS p-bass type bridge. I had an extra Badass II that I installed which improved things considerably.
This is, however, the worst player I have in my brood, probably because it has been leaning on its neck for a decade and thus is a bit of a twisty banana. The good thing is it does sound pretty good, the frets are in great shape and I like the neck profile. I think it can be saved, but I do not have skills to do it. I have unbolted the neck, covers, etc and have found no other markings on the thing. The refinish is not doing so well now but must have looked good when it was done.
If anyone thinks they can (and Im sure many of you out there) give me some info on this thing it would be much appreciated.
