can someone recomend a good solid state

yup i'm gettin rid of my all valve laney nexus in favour of a good solid state as i'm sick of lugging the heavy t**t up and down stairs and i'm sick of it bleeding my wallet dry in valves

i'm after a decent solid state i've been looking at markbass's but i'm undecided i play in a twin guitar metal band (iron maiden style) so ideally i need something around the 400w mark so i have plenty of headroom
i dont mind shelling out i'm getting a good price for the laney head at my local music shop so it doesn't have to be budget gear

markbass is sounding pretty good but which one? i dont need fx loops or anything all i need is an EQ and a powerplant most of my tone comes from my fingers but i dont want anything cheap and nasty

+1 - GK amps seem really well voiced for rock

I've just picked up a GK Fusion 550 and am putting it through its paces - it is a good compromise between tubes and solid state. Preamp tubes are cheap and the amp, while not a micro is likely significantly lighter (27 lbs, I think). If you are used to (and like) tube tone, going to all solid state might be a bit of a shock... I got mine for £759 through Digital Village. 30 day return policy and a complimentary 4 year warantee (above and beyond the GK warranty)

The Genz Benz shuttles are great amps! I have a 6.0 but the 9.0 could be great for metal. PLENTY of headroom in the 9.0 for sure and they weigh less than 5lbs. Check the GB 9.0 discussion thread. Great amps.

going SS, i'd recommend a GK 1001RBII for a head, or a preamp/poweramp rack set up, of which there are tons of options.

Get any powerful amphead and a Sansamp VT pedal. While I don't use one (though I'm GASsing for one) many diehard tube amp guys swear it nails the SVT sound using it with a SS amp.

Just a thought if you still dig the valve sound but want to go lighter.
