Can someone tell me more about this Ampeg?

Looks like a "collector" amp vs something a player would be interested in.
Ampeg had other solid state amps before this. I have the factory sales/spec sheet I can scan and post.
Looks like someone hacked away at the back to either vent heat or for easier access to repairs.
Honestly, most early SS amps are underpowered, sound like utter crap, or both. I'd avoid such things if you were actually trying to play through them.

Right on!! Thanks for scanning @farace! I love looking over the specs of vintage gear! I agree with the posts above though, this head won't be much of a player... but it sure is cool!
It's fugly for sure, but more than once I've been tempted by an enticingly priced full V-6B rig in a shop, just because Ampeg! and I collect Ampeg gear when I can do so affordably. I can't fit anything that size in the house now, though.
The asking price is pretty high for that head. The speaker cabinet is more desirable, with the amp, $250 is fair.
Those are covers over the output transistors that are mounted onto those heatsinks. Looks perfectly fine, to me.

I think they meant the sawed off part of the left rear cover.
I had one those. I used it with my 810 fridge and gigged it for a few years without any problems.
The cavity on the left side is supposed to be there. It's for storing the power cable.
Those amps aren't bad at all.
The speaker cabinets they paired them with was usually a two fifteen in a weird horn fold with the same rat fur covering. They would usually blow out. Whatever speakers they used didn't seem to hold the power.
A lot of those heads were used my way. They were pretty loud. I think it was Ampeg's attempt to make a cheaper SVT type head. The midrange and treble controls and switches seemed to have the same frequency curves.No ultralow switch though.I still know players who have them in fine working order. I think that they were Selmer/Magnavox era amps.
Joey Stampinato ,former NRBQ bassist,used one as a back up to his tube SVT.
$450 does seem high for one.
I do remember them sounding good though.

I like those amps. Matt Patton from The Drive by Truckers uses one through an old Kustom tuck n roll. Sounds fine to me.
The V6B cabinet had forward facing drivers with a center shelf port. The V4B cab was the folded horn.
There's actually been one on my local [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], guy's asking around $150 delivered. Apparently no takers.
Looks like he's got an SVT-DI on top of the head, might be what you're hearing.

A lot of the times they will mic the cab as well.
