Has anyone ever heard of "Basses buy Bourbon king"?
I somehow can't believe that this is "for real".
A Rickenbacker 4003 Blueburst for $300 on Craigslist?
I realize the pics don't mean anything, but if I was to ride over there, (15 mins away), can anyone tell me how to tell if this is an actual Ric?
Chime in please! If this is real, how can I pass it up!

So, basically, I'm gonna have to go look at it....(by the way, thanks for your concern, A-Step)...Also, thanks for everyones "2 cents". I appreciate it. I am, however, left with my original query, how can I tell if it is fake, if and when I see it?

Absolutely. Never go to someone's house to try out gear. Meet in a public place. Music stores are good too.

How to tell if it's real? Double trussrods would be one thing. Most of the copies seem to have only one. I'm sure other people will chime in on how to tell.

Make sure of a few things , neck thru construction , not set neck. Look at detailed photos of a real rickenbacker prior to going , the tuning machines should say rickenbacker on them , single ply pickguard with unbeveled edges , there should be a built in mute in the bridge , a dual jack plate with inputs for mono and stereo.

Most fakes wouldnt have the dual input jack detail OR rickenbacker wrote on he tuning machines, remove the truss rod cover and look for 2 truss rods.

Awesome! There's enough "stuff" there to pretty much tell me if it's real! I guess one can never be totally sure, but damn, those are some definitive "tells"-THANKS all!
I have not called yet, I figure now it's close to 10:00, so I'll call in the morning and ask for the serial #, and check it before I go any further-

You might not be aware that there have been at least a couple of cl robberies in very public places around here in the last year or so...Please proceed with caution and remember the old saying..."if it's too good to be true...."

C'mon, get real. Anyone that knows how to post an ad on Craig's List knows how to find the value of a bass like this.

Either it's a scam or stolen. If it's stolen you are buying some poor guy's bass. Either way it's nuts to give this 5 seconds thought.

On the other hand, if you want to help me out I just inherited $850 million dollars from an outgoing dictator and you seem like a nice guy. Can I deposit it in your bank?

Although it still shows up from the op's link...the add is gone from a cl rickenbacker search...also, some good samaratan had posted a re rickenbacker bass warning that's also gone....almost certainly a scam or attempt for a theft or strong arm robbery.

I had a similar incident a few years ago when looking to buy a car...the add sounded reasonable (not too good to be true)...talked to the guy on the phone and set out to meet him with my mechanic friend and gf in the car...as we approached the address it looked like a crack apartment building in an otherwise decent neighborhood...no parking lot and no sign of the described/pictured car...we kept on going and the guy tried to call a couple of more times...by the time we got home the add was gone from cl....I think we dodged an armed robbery on that one.
